Repairing a damaged Gixxer

This bike was dropped during a ride on mountain roads, the owner was looking for a motorcycle mechanic in Brisbane, ended up with MotoDoctor.

Left side has been damaged and thanks for the auction place, when they took the RH fairings off for take a picture of V.I.N. plate, they just dropped off to the ground causing bad scratches all over it.

Swingarm also suffered demage during the crash, rear race stand spool was broken off. Massive scratch on t side as well.

We spent long time with sourcing parts, but we saved big bucks on them.

Bike passed the final test and is on the road again.

This is one of those joy-works.

Brand new bike, only has couple of hundred KMs.

The owner wanted to fit a Termignoni full system, racing ECU and air filter.

The sound of the Termi is just amazing.

The bike was bought as a bobber but had few serious safety problems and quite often ran on one.

Sprocket was loose because it was not the right one for the hub, I could not tight up the wheel shafts, lights did not work properly and the list goes on and on….

Everything sorted out by now, apart from the metalwork and modification, I replaced the CDI unit, ignition coil and built a new wiring harness for it.
It is running smooth as it should and the happy owner taking it to Darwin.

This job started with a little knocking noise from the crank area that the owner has noticed after he bought it.
Bike is in mint condition, but due the worn main bearings, we decided to do a full engine rebuild.
Sort of a nightmare started by than. Bore size was way over the limit, due that the pistons were not the right shape and size, few parts needed replacement. Luckily the Yamaha Banshee engine almost identical except the bigger capacity, so I could get some aftermarket parts, the rest of it is genuine. Special thanks for Steve at TwoStrokeShop!

After the long wait for parts, next week I will put it back together….
